Picture this: you are swiping through Instagram stories and the inevitable “bath bomb erupting in a tub” boomerang pops up. Do you roll your eyes or get envious? If you said envious, do not fret. You're only a few clicks away from having everything you need for an at-home spa evening. No matter what you do for a living, every single person should take a night off at least once a week to recharge and refocus. We'll help you chillax with some incredible, Canadian-made bath products.

Step 1

To kick off your night-in, find the right playlist that will put you in a relaxing mood. Trust us, you’ll want to do this step first. (Never try to choose music on your phone when you’re in the bath, unless you have a large bag of rice laying around!)

Step 2
Light your favourite candle. One of our favourite candles is Echo from SeaLuxe, it has a pretty blend of lavender and rosemary. Your space will be smelling like a spa in no time. Click here to browse Maker House candles and find your favourite scent.

Step 3
Fill your tub with warm water and some soothing bath salts. Bath salts/Epsom salts provide a range of beneficial effects, including:

  • Insomnia relief
  • Stress relief
  • The reduction of pain and tissue swelling
  • Relief of muscle cramping after strenuous physical activity, and
  • Relief of magnesium deficiencies

We recommend the Lazy Lavender Bath Soak by Salt West Naturals. This blend helps relieve restlessness and promotes restful sleep. It is made with all natural ingredients and hand harvested mineral rich Canadian sea salt. And it smells amazing! Add 1/4 cup of this soak to your bath.

You can also try their Soothing Eucalyptus Bath Soak. Eucalyptus is a wellness blend that helps purify pores, soften skin and relieve stress.

Step 4
What bath would be complete without, you guessed it, a bath bomb! Our favourites are Zoe’s Corner’s bath bombs, all made with natural ingredients and no artificial dyes. We recommend Rose Buds for the most relaxing bath bomb.

Once in the water, the combination of sea salt, baking soda, and olive oil add moisture and nutrients to your skin and make for a relaxing soak. This is also a great time to wash your hair, as the sea salt adds volume and the olive oil conditions.

And of course, don’t forget to post a bath bomb boomerang to Instagram.

Step 5
Now that you are relaxed, it is the perfect time to give a deep clean to your skin so you can fully soak up all of the beneficial minerals and oils. Maker House has many handmade, natural soaps to choose from.

To hydrate, use the Calm Soap from Nurture. This lavender soap contains butters and oils to moisturize your skin from within. To purify, use the Charcoal Clay Spa Bar Soap from Good Neighbour Soap. Charcoal and bentonite clay are both known for their ability to absorb and draw out impurities from the skin.

Step 6
Soak in the bath for at least 15 minutes to get the benefits of sea salt, natural oils, and butters.

Close your eyes. Breathe. Reflect.

Step 7
Once you are done in the tub, seal all of those nutrients with your favourite lotion. For extra aromatherapy benefits, spritz some Calm Aromatherapy Mist from Nurture made lavender and patchouli essential oils. Use it on your body, pillow before bed to help you sleep, or as a room spray when you want to slow things down a bit.

Voila… You are ready to tackle the week ahead, and now you smell absolutely amazing.
